Our Story

Fishwreck was born over 12 years ago from a desire to bring something different to the
fishing apparel market. Tired of the same bright, pop coloured gear, we set out to create something grittier, more authentic, and more reflective of the outdoor lifestyle we live every day.

From day one, Fishwreck stood apart. Muted colours. Grungy textures. Bold artwork.
Designs inspired by real experiences on the water rather than marketing trends. It wasn't
polished. It wasn't mainstream. And that's exactly why people connected with it.

Today, Fishwreck remains true to those roots.

Brad, our owner and CEO, is raising two young kids. Nick Laferriere, our lead artist, is a father who spends his time fishing, hunting, and exploring with his family. Craig Bertram Smith, another of our artists, shares the same passion for the outdoors and raising his children around nature and adventure. Our designer, Conrad Petzsch-Kunze, is a father of four young kids who live and breathe the outdoor lifestyle.

Our team is made up of passionate outdoorsmen, artists, anglers, hunters, explorers, and most importantly, family people.

It's where we teach our kids about adventure, resilience, and respect for nature.

It's where we feel most at home.
Because we spend so much time on the water and in the wilderness, we also see firsthand the challenges facing our environment.

That's why sustainability is becoming a core part of the Fishwreck story.

Our recycled performance shirts are made using recycled plastic bottles, helping reduce waste that would otherwise end up in our oceans or landfill. Our nylon shorts are produced using recycled ghost nets, discarded fishing nets recovered from our oceans and transformed into durable, high-performance fabric.

We believe that if we enjoy the outdoors, we have a responsibility to help protect it.

OUR ARTISTS

  • NICK LAFERRIERE

    Nick is our founding artist and we honoured to have Nick Laferriere as part of our team. Nick has developed a unique style of fish skeleton and grunge art that is only available through us.  His unique style is unlike any other artwork available and was the pioneer in developing fish skeletons with attitude, combining skeletal features and features from live fish.  Nick has also developed this style into non skeletal works that have just as much attitude and detail.

  • CRAIG BERTRAM SMITH

    Smith, grew up in Johannesburg where as a child, fishing played a big part in his life. Fishing trips with his Dad and brother, specifically their annual Wildcoast trips are among some of his fondest memories. From a young age he had a keen interest in all ocean creatures, and would spend hours sketching and drawing various species of animals and fish. His remarkable talent was identified by his teachers and they encouraged him to explore his potential.  It's a joy to work with Craig's art with all of its natural beauty and complexity lending itself to both apparel and boat wraps.

  • JASON MATHIAS

    Multi award winning artist, featuring on the cover of the Florida Sport-fishing Magazine and featured amongst many organizations such as the IGFA, CCA and the ASMA.  It is truly a privilege to work with Jason's art in designing apparel and boat wraps.  Jason's unique, vibrant style derives from countless hours studying and observing the fluid motion of water and its reaction to light and surrounding the objects.
